The other alternative is of course the more standard 60cm wide model that should easily provide for the needs of a family of four. Good dishwashers nowadays are quite efficient and usually include an eco cycle that whilst shorter still cleans lightly soiled crockery glassware and cutlery easily. The shorter cycle also makes it practical to do more than one load as long as you are happy to cope with a sink full of dirty dishes until then. The alternative option would be to site the dishwasher in a separate utility room where the dirty dishes can be hidden out of sight; especially useful in the open plan kitchen/living/dining spaces of today's modern home. However the compromise of locating the dishwasher in the utility as opposed to the main kitchen would involve more of a trek between the two spaces when loading and unloading; these are options to discuss with your kitchen designer. For a large luxury kitchen used by a big family two full size dishwashers may be specified.
Both the above sizes of dishwashers come in three different configurations: freestanding semi-integrated or fully integrated. Freestanding is the most cost effective version and fully integrated the more expensive. The freestanding models are best used in separate utility rooms or where budget is a constraint as they tend to be bulky and unsightly. The semi-integrated model basically means that although the dishwasher front has an integrated kitchen furniture door the control panel is still visible along the top. This works well if there are drawers of a similar height either side of the dishwasher and thus the visual line is carried through.
One of the important benefits of slimline dishwasher is that they are usually very small energy consumers and spend less water than the standard dishwashers. Thus not only you save space and money but on this way you save environmental. A good feature of the integrated slimline dishwasher it's that integrates directly water connection thus facilitates better flow and pressure. The best indicator of this are bright washed pots and pans.
So let's talk dishwashers regular size dishwashers before we narrow our focus down to small ones. A standard size dishwasher is 24 inches wide 24 inches deep and 35 inches high. Any dishwasher 18 inches or narrower is considered small. A standard dishwasher can clean 12 place settings at a time and this same size is considered big enough for a family of four. Before you go shopping for a dishwasher of any size you need to be sure there is room to install it even if its only 18 inches wide. Dishwashers almost always need to be installed next to a sink. But even if your kitchen is so oddly set up that you can't fit a dishwasher next to the sink you can still go with a counter top dishwasher. More on those in a moment.
One of the most frequently asked questions in remodeling is how is it possible? To some it might be a little bit more difficult but to others it may be easier even if you plan on buying new kitchen cabinets. When time comes to install a dishwasher properly most homeowners either take out a piece of the cabinet or a chunk of the countertop. This will eliminate any problems you had for the space of the dishwasher. Even if you have already planned your remodeling project you can still have your dishwasher that you might still want.
